About us
In the context of increasing urbanisation, rapid technological change, climate change, and ongoing complexities related to health, one of our greatest challenges is ensuring that our aging population lives well, and that all children experience the best start to life. Increasing loneliness and disconnectedness across all ages can be partially remedied through building connections between and across generations through meaningful interactions.
In answer to an absence of intergenerational interconnectedness Play Connections, within the ‘Connections for Life with Dementia’ research project at the University of Wollongong (UOW, 2020), brought together a unique interdisciplinary team to build the evidence base for supported play groups for older people people, children (birth to five years) and their parents/carers. You can read all about Connections for Life here.
Through rigorous research practices The Intergenerational Playgroup Pedagogical Framework was developed, and is shared via the report that accompanies this resource. Key tenets of this report have been expanded on further in this online training program, with an aim to support future playgroup facilitators in establishing their own intergenerational playgroup and support the well-being of community members.
